The location of the city at the intersection of trade routes linking the Ottoman Empire and western Europe, together with certain tax exemptions, allowed Saxon merchants to obtain considerable wealth and exert a strong political influence in the region. This was reflected in the city’s German name, Kronstadt, as well as in its Latin name, Corona, meaning Crown City hence, the coat of arms of the city which is a crown with oak roots. Fortifications were erected around the city and continually expanded, with several towers maintained by different craft guilds, according to medieval custom. Here we review published geologic maps and compare them to paleoshoreline locations obtained through geomorphometric classification and satellite data. We compare our new dataset to positions and elevations extracted from published maps and find that the extracted site information from earlier studies is prone to significant error, both in the location and, more severely, in the elevation of the paleoshoreline. We also investigate, using geophysical modeling, the origin of post-depositional displacement of the shoreline from Georgia to Virginia.
In particular, we correct the elevation of our shoreline for glacial isostatic adjustment GIA and then compare the corrected elevation to predictions of mantle flow-induced dynamic topography DT.

The ancients mixed their cement, cement, ash, and rock with as little water as possible to give a stiff, “no-slump” concrete; and spread it on their cisterns and walls. After this it was pounded in the rock layer. Vitruvius, the noted Roman architect 20 BC mentioned this process in his history of architecture. He also mentioned that special tamping tools were used to build a cistern wall.
This tamping process was very important. The close packing of the molecular structure by tamping reduced the need of excess water, which is a source of voids and weakness. Also close packing produces more bonding gel than might be normally expected. Change in Roman Architecture Using this new technology, building could now be accomplished more rapidly and economically, and a great change took place in architecture.

Little can be gleaned from the New Testament, but other sources throw some light on what may have happened to a few of these men and women. Of the twelve original apostles, Judas Iscariot died at the time Jesus was sentenced to death. Of the remaining eleven, there is only a New Testament account of the death of James the Greater, the son of Zebedee and brother of the apostle John some ten years later.
The fate of the remainder and where they preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ comes from a variety of ancient traditions. Such traditions also apply to Matthias who replaced Judas Iscariot, and to the death of the apostle Paul. Few, if any of the traditions can be proved, but for some, the circumstantial evidence appears quite strong. This part actually starts with John the Baptist whose fate, in contrast with most of the apostles, is documented in three of the Gospels.
Paul’s travels are recorded in Acts 2. That is why miraculous powers are at work in him. For John had said to him, “It is not right for you to have this woman. But during Herod’s birthday celebrations Herodias’ daughter Salome, daughter of Philip and Herodias delighted him by dancing before his guests, so much so that he swore to giver her anything she liked to ask. And she, prompted by her mother, said, “I want you to give me, here and now, on a dish, the head of John the Baptist!
So he sent men and had John beheaded in the prison.

Search Basic Dendrochronology Until relatively recently, radiocarbon dating of wooden objects was the only known scientific method of dating wooden objects. Although in general it was always successful, dated produced would have a range of plus or minus 20 years at best, and at worst could span two centuries or more. And this only dated the actual rings sampled for C14 analysis; the tree may well have continued to live for decades or even a century or more afterwards.

The earliest maps produced in England were the religious world maps or in Latin mappa mundi. Probably one of the most famous is the Mappa Mundi which is displayed in Hereford Cathedral and was drawn around AD on vellum a single calfskin. It was intended to include all known places but also to be instructional and include historical information so the shape of the land is more artistic than realistic. It is centered on the city of Jerusalem as the religious heart of the known world, east is to the top and the British Isles are tucked down on the bottom left of the map see enlarged picture.
